Lots to see and do within walking distance

We stayed here for six nights. Apartment is in a side street a few minutes walk from the city centre. Easy to walk to most of the sights of Madrid, but we also used the Metro quite alot to get to places a bit further away. Metro is fantastic! Very regular, reliable and clean, and it only costs 1 Euro.
The apartment was very clean, comfortable and well equiped. We would definately recommend it. There are at least 4 small grocery shops within a 5 minute walk of the apartment, selling most things you need.
After we had booked the apartment we had read on the internet that the area is a bit rough and that there were prostitutes nearby. We did see prostitutes standing at the end of the street, but they were also at the main shopping street. As for crime, we actually felt very safe going back and forth to the apartment in the day and at night. The street is well lit and is quite busy.
The only problem we had was on the first night. The people in the apartment above (we think it is privately rented) decided to have a party. The music was at full blast from about 11pm until 3am. It was awful and we couldn’t get to sleep. We phoned the rep the next day and he was really apologetic and said he would have a word with their landlord. He said that it was a bank holiday weekend and thought it was probably a one-off as they are a family and usually cause no problems. The rest of the week, we didn’t hear a peep out of them.
