"Ideal budget accommodation"

My boyfriend and I stayed in this studio apartment for two weeks in august 2010 as I was studying at a language school in Madrid. The studio was clean, well equipped and perfectly adequate for our needs.

Size: Yes, it’s small, but unless you’re the half tonne man it’ll be fine. The bathroom is tiny (the width of a shower unit), but there are shelves to put toiletries on and a mirror above the sink. The kitchen is adequate for cooking for two and there’s even a small dining table. There’s also a futon sofa and TV, and a book case which had a couple of guidebooks on it.

Pros:
> Clean bathroom - towels provided which could be washed in the washing machine.
> Clean kitchen with hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, utensils and serving dishes.
> TV - mainly Spanish channels but good for music or brushing up on the lingo.
> Efficient and friendly check-in / out - we called when we landed at the airport and someone was waiting outside the apartment to greet us as we arrived.
> Excellent location one street back from the Gran Via and metro station, lots of shops and places to eat. A small cornershop 200 yds away. Sol, Malasana and Chueca all a five minute walk away.
> There was a remote controlled air-con unit in the room - extremely welcome when escaping the august heat.
> Comfortable bed, clean sheets.
> Secure. You access the studio through a communal entrance hall, up a flight of stairs and through a secure door to the hallway it’s on, then finally the lockable door to the apartment.

Cons:
> Even at 5’3”, I couldn’t stand up around the bed (which is on a sort of mezzanine above the dining area). This wasn’t really a problem for us but I guess it’s worth pointing out.
> Sometimes noisy at night - on maybe 3 or 4 nights of our 14 night stay.
> We didn’t know what to do with our rubbish! I guess we should have asked but it didn’t occur to us. We ended up dumping it next to a bin just up the street. This won’t be an issue if you’re only staying for a few days.
> Upon check-out we were told we had actually booked the room next door - slightly larger apparently, but this didn’t bother us.

I’d definitely stay here again.
